Playing with Copics

I am really starting to love my Copic markers. Now that I have started to get the hang of them I really like the brightly coloured saturated look that I am getting. I still love working with the Tombows but what I love about the Copics is that I get that blended effect by just colouring with the different hues of the same colour. With the Tombows I have to dig out my water and paintbrushes.

Jenn at The Scrapbox gave me two sheets of the Prima Satin Smooth paper that has become known as "the Copic paper". She wanted me to give it a try and let her know what I thought. The only condition was that I made a demo card for the store.

I have been using Manga paper from my art store. The Prima paper blows the Manga paper out of the water. Wow...wow...wow...I am impressed. Here is the card that I made for Jenn. Lets just say this is the second attempt...the first attempt, I made the mistake of using a stamp that she doesn't carry in her store. Oops....

Materials used: Prima cardstock, Bazzill cardstock, Basic Grey pattern paper, Great Impressions stamp, Stickles, Copic makers, Spellbinder Nestabilities.

I just realized that I never posted the circle journal layout that I mentioned I was struggling with. The whole idea of journalling about what I see in the mirror was a struggle for me. I started off doing something along the lines of dissecting my face into the parts of me that came from various family members. I really did not like where that was going.

So, I went the "Brown Bear" route instead:

Week #5 Scrappin' With The Oldies

Well this was suppose to be the last week of this challenge but everyone is enjoying using their stash and rediscovering all the things they have....so, it has been extended but for how long no one really knows yet.

This week's challenge was to use Cosmo Cricket pattern paper, Tim Holtz grungeboard, and Basic Grey rub ons. The mystery item was Fancy Pants stamps. This was not a hard one for me it was just a matter of choosing what went together well. I have come to realize that I have way too much stuff. I haven't missed a single item yet.

Materials used: Cosmo Cricket pp, Bazzill cs, Glimmer mist, Tim Holtz mask, Fancy Pants stamp, Versa Ink, Crackle Paint, Distress Ink, Gelly Gems, My Little Bicycle gems, Basic Grey Rubons, pop dots.

Heather has been doing quite a few layouts with Glimmer Mists and masks lately. I really have been liking the effect. I decided that I had to give it a try as well. I really need to play more with Glimmer Mist.

Today is Canada Day so I will say Happy Canada Day! We spent the day with the kiddies at the park. They played in the water, went on Midway rides, jumped in the bouncy castle, got pink and blue tongues from snow cones, and finally, got soaking wet on the walk back to the car. All and all a very good day.

Week #4 Scrappin' With the Oldies

Scrappin' With the Oldies at ScrapCentral has just completed its 4th week. There is only one more week left in the challenge. I can't believe how quickly it has gone by. Week 4's challenge was to use 7Gypsies pattern paper prior to 2009, at least 5 flower by any manufacturer and Maya Road chipboard. The mystery item was a decorative pin. I was once again had all the items in my stash.

Materials used: 7 Gypsies pattern paper, Maya Road chipboard, Core-dinations cardstock, Prism cardstock, Prima Say It With Crystals, Ranger white Paint Dauber, Versa Ink, Prima flowers, Dew Drops, EKSuccess Bookman letter stickers, Q&Co brad and pop dots.

This photo was taken of my two rascals on Valentine's Day. I could not get them to be serious with pretty smiles. They are at that "goofy" stage where they ham it up for the camera. I can't believe how many silly face photos I have from the past 6 months -- way, way too many.

I have been enjoying using up my older papers. Digging through all the different drawers trying to find what I need to complete these challenges has been getting my mojo going. I think I need to dig around my stash more often and not keep reaching for the latest and the greatest.

Classic procrastination techique

It is called avoidance. I am excellent at it. I have 3 Father's Day cards to finish, a layout for the Scrappin' with the Oldies challenge at ScrapCentral, a 5 product challenge, ATCs for the June swap and that circle journal layout I think I mentioned earlier. All of which I still haven't done.

So what am I doing...posting one of my older layouts for your enjoyment.

This is layout is from last years Father's Day when my wonderful husband and I took the kids to the beach for a picnic.

Yet another boring day....

Seriously, a really boring day at work. Things are much slower. I have basically been able to get what I need to get done in about the first hour of the day. If they didn't need someone to open the door to let people in, I think they could do without me for ohh....3 or 4 days out of a week right now. I don't want to give you the wrong impression. It is not always like this...usually I do about 3 peoples work in a day and still have work waiting for me but during the summer months things do tend to quiet down. This year instead of it slowing down around the middle of July, it began in early June. I can't imagine what August is going to be like which is traditionally our slowest month around here.

Anyway...this is suppose to be a craft blog -- showing you all my lovely creations -- NOT a "lets whine about what my life is like at the moment" blog. So on that note, here is my latest card. I made this as part of a challenge this past weekend to use the colours electric blue, lemony yellow and red. I really, really like how this turned out. The colour combo is very striking. I am glad that I thought of this challenge. It was one of my challenges for the ScrapCentral members for the on-line weekend crop we had last weekend.


Materials used: Stamping Bella stamp, Spellbinder Large & Small Oval Nesties, Spellbinder Classic Scallop Oval Nesties, Misc. ribbon, Doodlebug pattern paper, Sassafrass pattern paper, Versa Ink (Cyan), Copic Sketch makers, Memento Ink.

This was the only thing I managed to get done this weekend. I was hoping that I would get a circle journal layout down that was due on the 15th. It is now the 17th and I still haven't finished it. The topic of the layout is "The Girl in the Mirror". It is suppose to be a self-reflective piece with an emphasis on journalling. If you have taken a look at any of my layouts, you will know that I am not big on journalling. Most of the time it is just name, place and date so I am finding this one to be a bit of a challenge. I think I might have found a way to approach this today...finally....so I am hoping that I can get it done tonight.
